Ban Tha Khan Thong Homestay
Ban Tha Khan Thong Homestay
Chiangrai
This small village is located just next to Mae Khong river. While it is full of botanical resources and local know-how, the locals still enjoy a simple life by the water. Most of them work in agriculture, and they have a unique culture that may seem unusual compared to other communities in the north. Despite its location in northern Thailand, the culture in Ban Ta Kan Tong is influenced by the Isaan (Northeastern Thai) culture since their ancestors from the northeast region settled down here over 50 years ago. Here, you’ll get to explore a different vacation experience while you immerse yourself in the life and hybrid culture of Ta Kan Tong. Head out on a tractor ride, which will take you alongside the Mae Khong River and stop off to browse the “Ta mong” hand-woven clothes. Enjoy the nature at the combined agricultural park, where various plants are grown, including juicy passion fruit and quality sacha peanuts, exclusively sold through the Royal Project. In the evening, take a boat ride and follow the story of Suwankomkam, an ancient city from the Lanna period. Pay homage to the community’s main Buddha image and taste Ta Pun’s grilled skewered pork together with Yai Pun’s dipping sauce – said to be the most delicious in the area.
Culture and Local Heritage
A blend of Lanna and Isaan cultures is represented through the Isaan language spoken in the community, the traditional clothes, “Mor Lam” music, and a bamboo mouth instrument.
The local wisdom includes making sacha peanut leaf wraps and Tha Khan Thong spa for blood circulation improvement.
